ALESSANDRO ROSANÒ, Oportet ut scandala eveniant? Some Remarks on the Establishment of the EU interinstitutional Ethics Body

ABSTRACT – This May, the interinstitutional agreement under Article 295 TFEU on the establishment of an EU interinstitutional ethics body was signed by eight of the institutions and bodies of the European Union. It will be charged primarily with the task of developing common minimum standards in relation to areas where critical issues concerning the independence and integrity of the participating institutions and bodies and, in particular, of their members, are most relevant. The paper aims to provide a quick overview as to the relevance of public ethics issues in European Union law and then to outline how the interinstitutional agreement was concluded and how the ethics body will work, and to highlight some critical issues.
