ABSTRACT – The FIFA-UEFA rules under which any new competition is subject to prior approval are compatible with EU competition law and fundamental freedoms. The same applies to the sanctioning power and the exclusive marketing of competition rights. Such restrictions may be justified by legitimate objectives related to the ‘European Sports Model’.
