ALESSANDRO ROSANÒ, Carbon Farming as the New Frontier in the Fight Against Climate Change: Reflections in Light of Regulation (EU) 2024/3012

ABSTRACT – Regulation (EU) 2024/3012 aims to support carbon farming, that is, to incentivize the elimination of greenhouse gas emissions through a green business model that rewards farmers for adopting improved and regenerative soil management practices and processes. In this paper, having clarified the notion of carbon farming and the Union’s interest in the subject, the aim is to offer an overview of Regulation (EU) 2024/3012 and to address some critical issues, concerning the benefits that can be derived from obtaining a certificate of compliance under the provisions of this act, the DNSH principle, and the protection of the fundamental rights of rural communities and indigenous peoples.
